The upcoming CRPG, BOOK OF HOURS, has provided a glimpse into its immersive world with a freshly released trailer. This title, from Weather Factory, the creators of Fallen London, Sunless Sea, and the double BAFTA-nominated Cultist Simulator, showcases a tranquil yet somber atmosphere, setting the stage for a unique gaming experience.

The game’s narrative unfolds in the hallowed halls of the Hush House, a once flourishing fortress of knowledge that has been devastated by a catastrophic fire. The last Librarian has vanished, and it is up to the player, possessing singular abilities, to restore the now dilapidated occult library.

Gameplay Details

In BOOK OF HOURS, players are transported to a combat-free environment where they can indulge in the serene satisfaction of organising books, customizing their surroundings, and gradually unveiling the centuries-old history imprinted on the mystical stones within their reach.

As the Librarian, players’ influence extends well beyond the confines of the Hush House. They possess the power to shape history, directing its course in accordance with their actions and decisions. This role provides an expected 20 – 40 hours of gameplay, comprising a range of activities.

Players are tasked with acquiring, restoring, and cataloguing a variety of occult books, scrolls, and curiosities. They also have the opportunity to study the nine Wisdoms and master the nine Elements of the Soul. Assisting visitors who seek their aid, players are able to choose their paths and stories, adding another layer of interaction within the game.

Adventuring into the Secret Histories and the pantheon of Hours that govern them, players are set to uncover and restore a massive decaying edifice constructed on the remnants of an ancient abbey. Each playthrough provides different opportunities, thanks to the option to choose from nine different Legacies, each representing who the player is — a Magnate seeking peace, an Archaeologist fleeing a curse, or something more esoteric, like a Symurgist or Twiceborn.

You can currently wishlist the game on Steam ahead of its August 17th, 2023 release.
